A Gadsden resident on Monday reported having wired money to a company to pay for property, but the company didn’t receive it. When the victim’s wife called, she was told to wire it again, with an individual’s name on the transfer. The transfer went through, but the victim later learned that the company never received it. A cellphone store in the 500 block of East Meighan Boulevard reported that an employee who was fired in January for stealing also took a phone from the store and activated it on her account. The theft was discovered during a recent inventory. Someone tore a steel mesh gate out of the wall and broke the hasp off a door lock to burglarize the concession stand at the varsity fields in the 1400 block of West Meighan Boulevard. Chips, toilet paper and trash bags were stolen. The break-in happened between 8 p.m. last Friday and noon Sunday. A residence and shed in the 3000 block of East Meighan Bouelvard were burglarized between 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. Tuesday.
